Now that we're on the other side of the Labour Day long weekend I'm back at the studio and hard at work tattooing all my peeps as we wrap up the summer and head in to another hopefully lovely Vancouver fall season.

I have some last moment availability for Wednesday, September 8th due to cancellations. Please contact me if you'd like to come in on short order to start a new, small tattoo that I can design quickly or if you have ongoing work in progress and you'd like to take advantage of my availability.

I'm off to Osoyoos, BC on a motorcycle road trip for Labor Day weekend. I'll return to the tattoo studio on Tuesday, September 7th.

I still check my emails while I'm on the fly, however calls will be returned next week.

Have a great holiday weekend, everyone!

Hey gang! Summer is winding down which means demand for tattooing is surging as folks are ready to take on the commitment of fall and winter tattoo sessions.

This means it's getting very busy again for me for consultation requests. When it gets to this point I can't always reply to every consultation request email or phone call that I receive. I have to be more selective of the tattoos that I can put on my work load, whereas I only select tattoos that I'm inspired by and feel that I'm best suited to do.

Quality, not quantity is my focus; a great deal of time and effort is spent on rendering every one of my client's custom tattoos. And because there's only one of me, I can only take on so much work at a time while accomplishing my goals for a level of quality that I'm proud to be able to produce.

As for upcoming travel plans, aside from perhaps some last moment flights of fancy, my only scheduled time off is a Labor Day weekend motorcycle trip to B.C.'s interior (Osoyoos to swim in the lake). Otherwise it's nose to the grind stone from now until Christmas.

Hey everybody! I'm home from my California motorcycle trip and back at the tattoo studio tattooing full time for the rest of the summer.

The ride was awesome; with hang out time with my friend Barnaby at his tattoo shop in San Francisco and then on to visit Drat at his tattoo shop in Portland.

We got absolutely nothing but sunshine on our ride and zero speeding tickets, thank sweet baby zombie Jesus.

It's good to be home and back at the shop being productive, drawing sweet tatties for my clients.

On Saturday, July 24th I leave for vacation until August 3rd. I'll be road tripping on my motorcycle in Northern California and Oregon, with extended hang outs with my pal Drat on Portland until my return.

Feel free to drop me an email via my CONTACT page as I'll be keeping touch with my clients by internets while I'm away.

I want to thank Jackie and Ryan for scooping in on my free availability during the month of July. Barring the odd cancellation, July is now full for starting new tattoos.

I am trying to squeeze some smaller stuff in for August, so please do not hesitate to contact me about any tattoo project you have in mind and I'll do my best to accommodate you.

Early summer is here and the sun is starting to finally make an appearance in Vancouver. And with the longer days and predictable sunshine comes more availability in the tattoo shop as clients prefer to go camping rather than get tattooed.

For years I've attempted to educate my clients that it's better to get tattooed during the winter when swimming and sunbathing doesn't interfere with healing a fresh tattoo and finally that information seems to be sinking in.

The downside for me, however is that it's difficult to get people to commit to getting worked on during the month of July, so if you're itching to get a tattoo in short order, I actually have some cancellations open up some brief time in mid July. As you may know, it can be a wait of several months to get in my chair, so here's some rare availability on my calendar.

Right now July 13th and 15th has availability for tattoos that don't require a great deal of preparatory drawing. Email me to inquire if you want to swoop in on one of these dates.

As for the rest of my month, I'm planning to visiting San Francisco for the last week of July to retrieve a motorcycle that's been sitting in storage down there. I should be away from the studio from July 24th to July 29th as I ride back up the coast.

We've moved!

Mikel and I have moved our studio to The Waterfall Building near Granville Island. I felt that after four years operating out of our previous studio in Gastown, we had run our course with that location as the neighborhood continued to display more disparity between extreme wealth and extreme desperation in poverty.

More high end condos, clothing and furniture stores kept opening amidst the blatant drug abuse, property theft and underlying violence that permeated that historic neighborhood.

In the 25 years I've lived in Vancouver, Gastown has always been a neighborhood in transition as property development moved in and poverty receded. But the crime that accompanies poverty would push back and property development would falter and recede, only to make another push years later with new condos and new restaurants. New tenants would then get sick of getting their cars broken in to and would eventually move on to Yaletown or Coal Harbor and the cycle continued so on and so on.

As long as the flop house hotels on Hastings Street remain, Gastown will always be a cultural battleground.

Our old studio on Water Street was situated on the front lines of this culture war. Our studio was a million dollar condo with hardwood floors, exposed brick and epic views of the ocean and mountains. But set foot outside the building and you couldn't walk two blocks for coffee without being aggressively panhandled or just generally harassed by one of the local drug addicted denizens.

Inevitably Mikel and I decided that it would be best to move our operation to another area of the city where we could tattoo in peaceable enjoyment and our clients would feel completely safe and comfortable arriving for their tattoo appointment.

Our new studio, situated only steps away from Granville Island is absolutely lovely and wonderfully convenient for us and for our customers. There's a bus stop right out front and ample parking in one of the several lots surrounding our building, including parking on the defunct CP Rail line that runs along side our suite.

The new studio is a loft style room with our waiting parlor on the entry level and the tattoo work stations on the balcony above. Mikel's loft overlooks the central room and my tattoo area has sliding glass doors that open up to a large patio with views on to the Burrard Street Bridge and the North Shore mountains.

I've even set up a nice patio table and chairs so my clients and I can take a break during a tattoo for a drink and a snack while enjoying the outside air. It's really quite posh.

The new studio sits facing the courtyard of the Waterfall Building, so unlike that our previous location there's no intercom or elevator rides, just a quick flight of stairs to the mezzanine level and you can open our door and walk right in.

As with our previous location, we're still a 100% custom tattoo studio, with all tattoos and consultations done by invitation and appointment only.

I'm now taking consultations for new tattoos at the new spot. Please don't hesitate to contact me and I'll be happy to invite you down to our new digs to chat about your tattoo ideas.

Thanks for reading!
